“Red Square, 1” perhaps is the most unique restaurant-museum.
It is situated on Red Square only a few steps away from the
Kremlin in the building of the State Historical
museum, where all things are impregnated with the aura of
Russian History.
Over the period of many years already the restaurant holds
the series of “Historical dinners” jointly with the museum
every year from September till May. “The ceremonial dinners
of XIX and the beginning of XX centuries”, which used to
be organized by the Imperial family, Russian nobility, hierarchy
in honor of the outstanding events in the life of Russia:
coronation and wedding celebrations of Russian Imperators,
festivities in honor of the distinguished people, diplomatic
receptions etc., are recreated on the basis of archival studies.
Present-day “Historical dinner” fully reproduces the entourage
and menu of the particular dinner of the past, including
the order of dishes’ serving (usually 10-12 specialties!).
Herewith every service of the dish is accompanied by enthralling
historical and gastronomic comments.
During the dinner you
may enjoy as the wide taste of the different culinary masterpieces
(it is not without reasons, that XIX century is called the
gold century of Russian Noble Dish), as the feeling of participation
in traditions of repast in Russia.
The atmosphere of such
dinner-model is also reproduced: it is played ancient music,
named pledges relevant to the protocol of the exactly this
dinner. We would like to add, that such magnificent performance
is held in the royal Front mud room of the Historical museum,
in the hall, which is the masterpiece of art itself. The
guests of such “Historical dinners” receive a fine souvenir
– a copy of the archival menu, on the model of which this
dinner was recreated, as a keepsake.
Generally, the participation in the “Historical dinners”
can be compared undoubtedly with a time travel - fascinating,
informative and incredible tasty.
